A fashion showroom owner turned mom/writer, Brianne Manz lives in New York City with her husband, three children, and their puppy, Cooper. Her blog, Stroller in the City, boasts about city living, travel, kids, fashion, and all things mommy. What started as a way for loved ones to keep up with the family’s latest, has today evolved into a go-to guide for busy moms everywhere. As a fam of five in NYC, Manz and her crew love to soak up everything the big city has to offer — and live to share it!
How has your family life changed since the beginning of the pandemic?
What hasn't changed? Ha! My kids are currently home-schooling with two days in school, which, as I’m sure any parent will tell you, is not ideal for them or us. The women’s co-working space I normally worked from shut down, forcing me to make my dining room my new home office. We did wind up adopting our sweet puppy, Cooper, during all of this and he’s been such a joy to have around. We have had very little time with family and friends outside our household which can be incredibly taxing. It’s been a year of adjustments for many of us.
What have you learned from having your three children home most of the time with you?
I really want to acknowledge their willingness in adjusting with the world. My children quickly understood the severity of the COVID-19 virus and their responsibilities in keeping our community safe, social distancing, and wearing a mask (even understanding that all playdates were on hold)! While some days are harder than others, I do think all three of my children have matured during these challenging times. I feel like I have learned to slow down a bit as well and really just enjoy this time together and the little things.
What is one thing your family has done in quarantine that you’d like to continue post-pandemic?
I think we have all appreciated slowing down. We are a crazy bunch with an often crazy schedule, but quarantine has forced us to slow down and be more present with one another. Really spending quality time together is something I hope we can continue going forward!
What is one accessory or article of clothing that makes you feel invincible? Why?
A dress! Specifically a floral dress. As many of my readers know, I’m a girly girl at heart. If I never had to wear pants again I'd be just fine.
What inspired you to create a line of mommy and me looks?
I think the relationship I have with my own daughters inspired me to create In the City. My girls have really found their own passion for fashion and I love that it's a creative outlet for us three. Our travels together pre-COVID have definitely contributed. Discovering other cities, cultures, and food transcends into being inspired with our styles.
How do you find moments of peace in your very busy life?
As a born and raised New Yorker the hustle and bustle is my peace. There is nothing that rejuvenates me more than a fun filled day in the streets of New York. The people, food, fashion, landmarks… it all makes me feel my best and happiest. I also enjoy my Drybar blowouts and a good mani/pedi!
What do you love most about designing for children?
Designing children's clothes is incredibly fun because the possibilities are endless. Children's clothing can be playful and wild, while totally trendy and loved. I find that it’s a lot easier to play with color, textures, prints, and more with children’s fashion than adult styles.
